Nifty Faces 24,000 Resistance After 4-Day Rally

The Nifty 50 is showing signs of consolidation after a strong four-day rally, ending at 23,811 on November 3. As the index nears the 24,000 psychological resistance level, caution is mounting due to overbought technical indicators and global uncertainty ahead of US election results. Investors are now monitoring support zones between 23,500 and 23,700.

The Nifty 50 index is entering a potential cooling-off period after a sharp four-session winning streak. The benchmark index closed at 23,811 on November 3, 2026, marking a 1.58% gain. This recent upward movement was supported by broad-based buying, which helped the index reclaim key averages. However, the market is now approaching the critical 24,000 mark, a level that traders often view as a psychological and technical barrier.

Technical indicators suggest that the index may be moving too fast. The Relative Strength Index (RSI)—a tool used to measure if an asset has been bought too aggressively—is currently in the overbought zone. When an index or stock stays in this zone for a long time, it often indicates that a short-term price correction or profit-taking by traders is likely. This does not necessarily mean the long-term trend has turned, but it does suggest that the momentum may slow down before any further upside.

Global factors are also weighing on investor sentiment. Uncertainty surrounding the upcoming US election results is keeping markets cautious, and early trading signals from the GIFT Nifty indicated a slightly negative opening. Additionally, elevated crude oil prices remain a concern for the Indian economy, as they can lead to inflationary pressure and impact the profitability of industries that rely heavily on energy imports.

Meanwhile, the Bank Nifty, which tracks major banking stocks, has also shown signs of strength. Large lenders like SBI have recently posted strong quarterly results, with SBI reporting a 14% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹23,038 crore for Q2FY27. This institutional buying across public and private lenders has provided a safety net for the index. Analysts are now watching the 56,000 level on the Bank Nifty as a key point that could determine the next major trend.

For investors, the immediate focus is on how the market behaves near the current support levels. If the Nifty fails to hold the 23,500–23,700 zone, it could trigger a deeper retracement. Conversely, a clean and sustained break above the 24,000 level would be required to signal that the index has enough strength for further gains. Many market participants are now prioritizing a strategy of waiting for dips to deploy capital, rather than chasing the market during sharp gap-up openings.
