NSE Q1 Net Profit Rises 6.7% To ₹3,120 Crore

The National Stock Exchange of India reported a net profit of ₹3,120 crore for the June quarter, driven by higher trading volumes. The bourse also reached a settlement with SEBI to resolve long-standing regulatory actions regarding past market access cases.

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) posted a 6.7% growth in net profit for the quarter ending June 2026, with earnings reaching ₹3,120 crore. This financial performance was largely supported by a 13% increase in total revenue compared to the same period last year.

Impact of Trading Volumes on Earnings

The primary driver behind this growth is the sustained increase in trading activity on the exchange. As market participants navigate global geopolitical uncertainty and volatility, transaction volumes have naturally trended upward. Revenue specifically generated from core trading operations grew by 12.8% to reach ₹4,100 crore, reflecting the direct link between market volatility and the exchange’s income.

Regulatory Settlement and SEBI Approval

Alongside the financial results, the exchange confirmed a significant regulatory milestone. NSE has received in-principle approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to settle long-standing matters related to allegations of unfair market access. Under the terms of this settlement, the exchange has agreed to pay ₹1,490 crore. It is important for investors to note that this settlement is being made without the exchange admitting or denying the allegations originally leveled against it.

Implications for Upcoming IPO

This performance comes at a crucial time as the company prepares for its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), which is expected later this year. The offering is reportedly looking to facilitate the sale of existing stakes worth up to $3 billion. Financial analysts often view consistent profit growth as a key indicator of valuation strength, though the resolution of the legacy regulatory issue is equally significant, as it clears a long-standing hurdle that had previously created uncertainty regarding the exchange's governance and compliance status.

Investors will likely monitor how the exchange manages its remaining cash reserves following the ₹1,490 crore settlement payment and whether trading volumes remain elevated in the coming quarters. The primary focus for the market will now shift to the specific timeline for the IPO filing and the final valuation details shared with potential investors.
