KFin Technologies and the Association of Portfolio Managers in India have introduced InPro, a centralized anti-money laundering platform for the PMS sector. The initiative aims to standardize risk screening and compliance workflows across the industry. This move helps smaller firms reduce the cost of building independent technology systems while ensuring better regulatory alignment.
KFin Technologies Limited, in partnership with the Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI), has launched InPro, a shared digital infrastructure designed to manage anti-money laundering (AML) and compliance needs for the portfolio management services sector. The platform was officially unveiled by SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey during the APMI annual conference in Mumbai on October 1, 2026.
Portfolio management service providers are currently required to maintain strict adherence to regulations regarding financial crimes, including the ongoing monitoring of client risk profiles. Traditionally, this required firms to invest in their own technology or manual processes to screen clients against global sanctions lists, regulatory watchlists, and databases of politically exposed persons. The launch of InPro shifts this approach by providing a standardized, industry-wide digital tool.
For KFin Technologies, this launch strengthens its position as a key service provider for the Indian financial services ecosystem. By offering a shared platform, the company is effectively lowering the barrier to entry for smaller portfolio managers who might otherwise struggle with the high capital spending needed to build and maintain robust, proprietary compliance systems. This setup allows firms to move beyond simple client onboarding checks toward continuous surveillance, with an integrated workflow that helps teams identify and resolve alerts in real-time.
The system is also designed to simplify the audit process. Because it maintains a detailed history of reviews and decision-making, firms can more easily generate the documentation required by regulators. For the broader industry, this reflects a regulatory environment where technology is increasingly used to ensure that all participants, regardless of their size, meet a uniform standard of oversight.
While this digital solution addresses current compliance requirements, investors in the sector often monitor the risks associated with evolving regulatory standards. As compliance rules are updated, technology providers like KFin Technologies must continuously invest in system upgrades to remain compliant, which can lead to higher operational costs. Additionally, the effectiveness of such platforms depends on widespread industry adoption and the ability to maintain data security amidst rising cybersecurity threats across the financial sector. The next phase for the industry will likely be observing how quickly portfolio management firms adopt the InPro platform and the extent to which it reduces the overall compliance burden during regulatory audits.
