Invesco Buys Stake in SMT; Institutions Shuffle Tonbo Imaging

Invesco Mutual Fund invested Rs 134.3 crore for a 3.5% stake in Sahajanand Medical Technologies. Meanwhile, Tonbo Imaging saw a major ownership shift as Yali Deeptech Fund exited, and institutional investors like HDFC Mutual Fund and Bajaj Life Insurance increased their holdings. This trading activity reflects typical portfolio rebalancing for companies recently listed on the stock exchange.

Institutional investors were active on October 23, 2026, as newly listed companies witnessed significant ownership shifts. Sahajanand Medical Technologies and Tonbo Imaging were the primary focus of these bulk deal activities, as major funds adjusted their portfolios.

Invesco Mutual Fund signaled interest in the medical device sector by acquiring a 3.5% stake in Sahajanand Medical Technologies. This Gujarat-based company, which produces vascular and heart intervention devices, recently went public. The investment, totaling Rs 134.3 crore, highlights institutional appetite for firms that have successfully completed their initial public offering. The stock has been trading at a premium to its issue price, and this move suggests that large funds are looking to establish positions in the company following its market debut.

Transition in Tonbo Imaging

Tonbo Imaging, a manufacturer in the defense electronics sector, experienced a significant change in its shareholder base. Yali Deeptech Fund I, a venture capital entity, sold its entire 4.18% stake in the firm. The sale involved 24 lakh shares at an average price of Rs 1,069.22, totaling approximately Rs 256.61 crore. It is common for early-stage venture capital investors to exit their positions shortly after a company lists on the stock exchange to provide liquidity to their funds.

Filling the gap created by this exit were several large institutional investors, indicating strong interest in the defense technology space. HDFC Mutual Fund led the buying, purchasing 10 lakh shares for Rs 117.73 crore across two tranches. Additionally, Bajaj Life Insurance acquired a 1.57% stake, and Buoyant Capital bought 0.96% of the company. The shift from venture capital to long-term institutional holders is a standard lifecycle phase for recently listed stocks, as the ownership structure moves toward more stable, long-term investors.

Investor Context for Newly Listed Stocks

For investors, these post-listing movements are important to monitor. While institutional buying can be seen as a sign of confidence, it is also part of a larger process of market stabilization. Companies that have recently listed often see high volatility as early investors exit and new, long-term investors enter. The key for shareholders moving forward will be the company’s ability to meet growth expectations in upcoming quarterly results and demonstrate consistent operational performance. Investors should look for updates on order execution and profit margins to see if the valuation remains supported by the business fundamentals.
