Forbes & Co Shares Rise Despite 4.8% FPI Stake Sale

Foreign funds Elysian Wealth and Resonance Opportunities offloaded a combined 4.86% stake in Forbes & Company at around Rs 270 per share. Despite the selling pressure, the stock defied expectations to close 2.32% higher. Investors should weigh this price resilience against the company's significant promoter share pledging and weak long-term financial trends.

Forbes & Company witnessed significant activity from institutional investors on November 5, 2026, as two foreign portfolio investors reduced their holdings in the firm. Elysian Wealth Fund and Resonance Opportunities Fund collectively offloaded approximately 4.86 percent of the company's equity through bulk deals. Each entity sold 3.14 lakh shares, representing a 2.43 percent stake, at average prices hovering near Rs 270 per share.

Despite the concentrated selling pressure from these institutional investors, the stock displayed surprising resilience. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, Forbes & Company shares ended the session at Rs 297.10, marking a gain of 2.32 percent for the day. This price movement suggests that buying interest in the open market was sufficient to absorb the shares offered by the exiting funds, though investors should exercise caution when interpreting such short-term price reactions in the face of institutional exits.

While the stock price rose, investors should note the underlying risks associated with the company. The firm currently faces a high level of promoter share pledging, with approximately 98.25 percent of promoter shares reportedly pledged. This high level of encumbrance can create significant vulnerability to market volatility and potential further selling pressure. Furthermore, the company has dealt with a challenging long-term financial performance, characterized by an annual contraction in net sales and operating profits over recent years. Its valuation, particularly in terms of price-to-book ratio, remains at a premium compared to its modest return on equity of 5.1 percent.

In separate market activity, the infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) segment also saw reshuffling. Edelweiss Broking acquired 22.5 lakh units of Anantam Highways Trust, a road infrastructure vehicle, at Rs 100 per unit. This investment, valued at Rs 22.5 crore, coincided with a divestment by WhiteOak Capital Multi Asset Allocation Fund, which sold 11.83 lakh units of the same trust. This reflects a broader trend of institutional rebalancing within the infrastructure space as the year comes to a close.

For investors tracking Forbes & Company, the primary focus should remain on management updates regarding the reduction of the high promoter pledge levels and any concrete improvements in quarterly earnings quality. Given the weak financial trend and the heavy pledge of promoter shares, market participants may watch for future disclosures from the company that could provide clarity on its balance sheet stability and long-term business recovery.
