Ashish Dhawan Raises Religare Stake to 7.41% After Recent Buy

Renowned investor Ashish Dhawan has increased his stake in Religare Enterprises to 7.41% as of August 31, 2026. This purchase coincides with broader institutional portfolio rebalancing across the financial and material sectors. While the stock saw a 4.18% gain, the company continues to navigate significant challenges, including a recent net loss and regulatory roadblocks regarding its proposed demerger plans.

Market veteran Ashish Dhawan increased his equity holding in Religare Enterprises on August 31, 2026. This move pushes his total stake to approximately 7.41 percent. The transaction, executed through open-market purchases, occurred as the stock price closed at ₹242.80 on the National Stock Exchange, reflecting a 4.18 percent gain for the day.

Religare Enterprises is currently navigating a complex operational period. In its most recent financial report for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, the company posted a consolidated net loss of ₹47 crore. Although the firm recorded a 26 percent year-on-year revenue growth, this was largely supported by its Care Health Insurance subsidiary, while the core business profitability remained under pressure due to rising costs.

A significant hurdle for the company is the current regulatory landscape. The Reserve Bank of India recently rejected Religare Enterprises' proposed demerger plan. This proposal was a central part of the company’s long-term strategy to reorganize its businesses. The regulator's decision creates uncertainty for investors, as it alters the roadmap for how the company might separate or optimize its various segments.

The activity in Religare comes as part of a wider trend of institutional rebalancing across the Indian stock market. Major funds were active across several sectors during this period, resulting in significant block deals. For instance, DSP Mutual Fund acquired a 1.23 percent stake in Concord Biotech, while other entities like SBI Cards saw notable shifts in institutional ownership. Ather Energy also experienced high volume and institutional interest, pushing its stock price to new highs.

For Religare shareholders, the key focus remains on how the management team intends to address the regulatory rejection and whether they can successfully implement a new restructuring path. Investors may track upcoming exchange filings for any updates on the company's business strategy and, more importantly, whether the firm can shift from a net loss to consistent profitability in the coming quarters.
