Brookfield Asset Management is planning a substantial $12 billion investment in Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy sector over the coming three years, marking potentially the largest overseas commitment for India in this domain. The global investment firm is also considering further investments in real estate and hospitality, with plans to develop a township north of Vizag and establish multiple hotels under its Leela brand. The specifics for these hospitality ventures are still being finalized but broad agreements are in place.
The $12 billion pledged for clean energy aims to cover various aspects of the value chain. Brookfield is likely to invest in Indosol's integrated manufacturing facility and Navayuga's renewable energy portfolio, alongside manufacturing and green hydrogen projects.
This significant commitment follows a meeting between Andhra Pradesh's IT and electronics minister Nara Lokesh and Brookfield's global president Connor Teskey in London earlier. A recent meeting in New Delhi further discussed these plans with Brookfield's managing partners Nawal Saini, Ankur Gupta, and Arpit Agrawal.
Brookfield has an ambitious goal to expand its India portfolio from $30 billion to $100 billion by 2030 across diverse sectors.
Andhra Pradesh has attracted considerable investment in renewable energy previously from companies like Premier Energies and Renew Power.
The Andhra Pradesh government is expected to formalize this partnership with Brookfield at its upcoming summit in Vizag on November 14-15.
