Project Details and Funding

The agreement mandates Sun Drops Energia Ltd, a KPI Green Energy subsidiary, to develop, own, and operate two standalone BESS projects. One will be located near the 220kV Gariyadhar AIS Substation with a capacity of 65 MW/130 MWh, and the second near the 220kV Otha AIS Substation, offering 55 MW/110 MWh. These projects in Gujarat are secured under a tariff-based competitive bidding process facilitated by GUVNL, backed by Viability Gap Funding from the Power System Development Fund. The contracted capacity will be provided to GUVNL on a long-term basis.

India's Energy Storage Push

This development aligns with India's ambitious renewable energy transition, which heavily relies on integrating intermittent solar and wind power into the national grid. Utility-scale battery storage is crucial for enhancing grid reliability and maximizing the utilization of green energy. Government-backed programs and funding mechanisms like VGF are actively promoting such projects to meet these evolving energy needs.

KPI Green's Expanding Portfolio

This latest agreement with GUVNL, which follows a prior 445 MW/890 MWh pact, marks a significant expansion for KPI Green. It solidifies its commitment to the utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System segment and enhances its capabilities in managing renewable energy integration. The combined capacity underscores the company's growing influence in developing critical energy infrastructure for India.
