Indian farmers can earn Rs 270 crore annually by converting 7.3 million tonnes of burnt paddy straw into renewable biogas. This agricultural residue, rich in cellulose and lignin, can also produce bioethanol and high-value products like Graphene, potentially replacing imports worth Rs 1,600 crore. The shift is expected to attract Rs 37,500 crore in investments and establish 750 Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) projects by 2028-29, boosting energy security and saving foreign exchange.
