Bioenergy developer REnergy Dynamics announced Tuesday it has secured two waste-to-compressed biogas projects from Refex Renewables. The facilities, one in Coimbatore and another in Salem, Tamil Nadu, will each process municipal solid waste. The Coimbatore plant is designed for 12.5 tonnes per day (TPD) of feedstock, while the Salem plant will handle 10 TPD.
Advanced Technology Deployment
Both plants will use two-stage mesophilic anaerobic digestion with CSTR technology. This method is chosen for its efficiency in processing organic waste, optimizing biogas yields, and ensuring long-term operational reliability. REnergy Dynamics will manage the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases for both projects and provide one year of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services.
Environmental and Economic Impact
Kushagra Nandan, Chairman & Managing Director of REnergy Dynamics, highlighted the significance of this agreement. Collectively, these two projects are projected to process 22.5 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. This volume is expected to displace approximately 2.9 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, with each plant contributing roughly 1.45 lakh tonnes of reduction. Capturing methane from waste decomposition will convert a pollutant into clean bioenergy. The initiative is also expected to reduce reliance on landfills and enhance urban waste management systems.
Kalpesh Kumar, MD of Refex Renewables, stated that the partnership with REnergy Dynamics is built on a shared vision for developing scalable waste-to-energy solutions with a lasting environmental impact.
