The Supreme Court of India has postponed the hearing concerning a legal challenge filed by Seclink Technologies Corporation. This challenge is against the Maharashtra government's decision to grant the Dharavi redevelopment project to Adani Properties Pvt Ltd. The court has scheduled the next hearing for the first week of December. The adjournment was necessitated because the Chief Justice of India, who is part of the bench, is set to retire on November 23, and the court indicated it could not complete the proceedings before that date.
Previously, on March 7, the Supreme Court had declined to halt the project and requested responses from the Maharashtra government and Adani Properties Pvt Ltd. This came after Seclink Technologies Corporation filed a petition challenging a December 20, 2024 verdict by the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court had previously cleared the path for the Dharavi slum redevelopment, upholding the tender awarded to the Adani Group, stating there was no "arbitrariness, unreasonableness or perversity" in the decision-making process.
Seclink Technologies Corporation had initially emerged as the highest bidder for the project with an offer of Rs 7,200 crore in 2018, but that tender was later cancelled by the government. The Adani Group subsequently won the bid in a 2022 tender process with an offer of Rs 5,069 crore for the 259-hectare project.
Impact This legal challenge and adjournment can create uncertainty and delays for the ambitious Dharavi redevelopment project. For Adani Properties, continued legal battles could impact project timelines and execution. It also raises questions about the bidding and awarding process for large-scale infrastructure projects in India, potentially influencing investor sentiment towards such bids. Rating: 7/10
