Vande Mataram to Echo From Red Fort For First Time on Aug 15

For the first time, the national song 'Vande Mataram' will be performed from the ramparts of the Red Fort during India's Independence Day celebrations in 2026. The event marks the 150th anniversary of the song and highlights India’s focus on the 'Viksit Bharat' 2047 vision.

The upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026, will feature a historic first for the nation. For the first time since Independence, the national song 'Vande Mataram' is set to be sung from the ramparts of the Red Fort. This special rendition is planned to take place upon the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a tribute to the song's 150th anniversary.

The Ministry of Defence has structured this year's event to focus on India's future developmental milestones. A central theme of the ceremony will be 'Yuva Shakti' or youth power, recognizing the role of younger generations in achieving the government's vision of a developed nation, or 'Viksit Bharat', by 2047.

To reflect these themes, the event will include a live formation featuring 2,500 cadets and volunteers, complemented by aerial flypasts. Special invitees seated on the ramparts will include 19 medalist students who achieved success in the International Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematical Olympiads held in 2026. The event backdrop will also highlight national progress in space and nuclear technology.

This year's guest list includes approximately 5,000 individuals, categorized as achievers from various sectors who have contributed to India's development. Additionally, around 600 winners from government-organized competitions on topics such as the role of AI in building a developed India and the evolution of the nation since 1947 will participate. As part of the preparations, the Ministry of Defence has included all six stanzas of 'Vande Mataram' in the official invitation cards to encourage participation among the attendees.

This celebration is a state-organized event led by the Ministry of Defence. There is no corporate or stock market entity involved, and the event remains focused on national commemoration and long-term developmental goals for 2047.
