The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the total financial benefit under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per girl. This milestone-based support targets families with an annual income below ₹3 lakh, aiming to improve health and education outcomes. Families can manage their applications via the official state portal, with benefits covering developmental stages from birth through graduation.
The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the financial assistance provided under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana. Starting in the 2024-25 financial year, the total benefit for a girl child has been raised to ₹25,000, up from the previous limit of ₹15,000. This program is a state-led initiative to encourage families to prioritize the health and education of their daughters from birth through graduation.
Financial support is not provided as a single payment. Instead, the state releases funds in several stages linked to specific developmental and educational achievements. Beneficiaries receive ₹5,000 at birth and ₹2,000 upon completing mandatory vaccinations. As the child continues her education, the government provides ₹3,000 when she enters Class 1 and another ₹3,000 when she reaches Class 6. A payment of ₹5,000 is released upon entry into Class 9, and a final installment of ₹7,000 is provided when the student enrolls in a graduation or diploma course.
The scheme is available exclusively to families residing in Uttar Pradesh with an annual household income of ₹3 lakh or less. The benefit is generally capped at two girls per family, though exceptions exist for cases involving multiple births in a single pregnancy. Adopted daughters also qualify for support under this limit. Families are required to provide proof of residency and income, such as an Aadhaar card or ration card, to verify eligibility.
From a policy perspective, this increase represents a direct expansion in social sector spending by the state. By tying payments to academic and health milestones, the government aims to reduce dropout rates and encourage preventive healthcare. Residents can visit the official state portal at mksy.up.gov.in to monitor eligibility and submit applications. The success of the scheme will depend on the effective disbursement of funds and the ability of the Women and Child Development Department to reach eligible families across the state.
