The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) collected ₹96.98 crore in donations within 24 hours as devotees rushed to lock in lifetime benefits before a policy change on July 15. The new system replaces lifetime entitlements with 20-year privileges to improve donor management and transparency.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) experienced a massive surge in contributions, totaling ₹96.98 crore in a single day, as the deadline for the previous donor policy expired at midnight on July 15. This final rush was driven by individuals and organizations looking to secure lifetime benefits, such as priority darshan and special accommodation access, which are no longer available under the updated guidelines.
Donor Surge and Contribution Profile
Official figures released by the TTD indicate that 2,460 donors participated in this last-minute influx. The bulk of the contributions came from two primary segments: 1,212 individuals donated between ₹1 lakh and ₹10 lakh, while 1,246 contributors provided between ₹10 lakh and ₹25 lakh. Additionally, two donors contributed over ₹1 crore each. This surge follows a period of rapid growth in the donor base, with nearly 3,000 new donors contributing ₹10 lakh or more over the last four months alone, according to TTD chairperson BR Naidu.
Overhaul of Donor Benefits
Under the new policy, the TTD has transitioned away from the previous range-based slabs that offered perpetual perks. For individual donors, privileges are now limited to a 20-year duration, while institutional donors will see their benefits capped at 15 years. This shift is part of an effort to standardize the donation process and reduce manual intervention in the management of special darshan and accommodation requests. The temple authority is moving toward an online Donor Management System to ensure more uniform and transparent access for all pilgrims.
Financial Context of TTD
Managing one of India's most visited religious sites, the TTD maintains a significant financial footprint with a net worth estimated at ₹3.38 lakh crore. The temple's primary revenue stream, the Hundi or offering box collections, reached over ₹1,738 crore for the 2025-26 period, reflecting an average daily collection of approximately ₹4.75 crore. With a massive existing registry of nearly 2 lakh donors—of which roughly 1.5 lakh have contributed ₹1 lakh or more—the TTD’s shift toward a time-bound privilege structure marks a major change in how it manages its substantial donor relationships and infrastructure access. Investors and stakeholders in related tourism and service sectors may track how this digital transition affects pilgrim flow and administrative efficiency in the upcoming quarters.
