Thousands of Voter IDs Found Near Narmada River in MP

Administrative authorities in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, are investigating the discovery of thousands of voter identification cards along the banks of the Narmada River. The documents, reportedly linked to the Rau Assembly constituency in Indore, have triggered political protests and demands for a criminal probe into potential electoral irregularities. Officials have secured the recovered items as evidence while the investigation continues.

Administrative officials in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh have launched an inquiry following the discovery of a large quantity of voter identification cards dumped along a ghat in Mandleshwar. The documents were identified by sanitation workers during routine cleaning operations on Sunday morning. Local law enforcement and personnel from the revenue department arrived at the location to secure the area and seize the documents for official examination.

The recovery of the voter IDs has led to immediate political backlash in the region. Representatives from the Congress party demonstrated outside the Mandleshwar police station, demanding the filing of a First Information Report to initiate a criminal investigation. Local party leaders have cited the volume of the recovered cards as evidence of potential electoral interference, noting that several documents appeared to belong to voters registered in the Rau Assembly constituency of Indore.

In response to the incident, the local administration has initiated a formal probe. Maheshwar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Purva Mandloi confirmed that a tehsildar has been assigned to oversee the process and manage the collection of evidence. Officials have established an official record of the items recovered from the riverbank, though the exact total count of the documents and the timeline of how they arrived at the site have not yet been established. The administration is currently verifying the ownership details of the recovered IDs to determine the circumstances of their disposal.

The local police have acknowledged receiving a written complaint regarding the incident. Further legal or administrative action remains pending, contingent on the findings of the ongoing investigation. The incident has raised questions regarding the secure handling and disposal of electoral documents, and the administration’s forthcoming report is expected to clarify whether the disposal was a result of procedural negligence or deliberate malpractice.
