Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam has moved the Supreme Court, alleging that the DMK leadership manipulated electoral rolls, resulting in the removal of 9.7 million voters in Tamil Nadu. The party claims this interference compromised the Special Intensive Revision process, sparking concerns over political governance that stakeholders often monitor in the state.
Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) general secretary Aadhav Arjuna has initiated legal action in the Supreme Court regarding the recent Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu. The party has formally alleged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) influenced the process, which reportedly led to the removal of approximately 9.7 million names from the state’s voter lists.
The TVK claims that this administrative exercise was used to target specific demographics, including women and voters under the age of 30. According to the party, this was achieved by exerting control over booth-level officers, with district-level functionaries allegedly ensuring that the revision process remained under the supervision of local ruling party officials.
Beyond the allegations of administrative influence, the TVK has accused the DMK of using a private entity to harvest data from the Election Commission and state authorities. The party contends that this data was integrated into a private application used to monitor voter behavior. The TVK argues that these actions had a direct impact on legislative election outcomes and has asked the Supreme Court to cancel the current revision.
These allegations follow similar concerns previously raised by AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding the lack of independent oversight during the revision period. While the DMK has denied these claims, the TVK has stated it plans to present documentary evidence to support its allegations of systemic interference.
For market participants and those monitoring state governance, the legal proceedings in the Supreme Court will be the key update to watch. Electoral disputes and concerns over data handling or administrative neutrality can sometimes influence the political environment and policy decision-making in the state. Investors will track the outcome of this petition to understand if it creates any significant political or regulatory friction within the state administration.
