Shiprocket and Behari Lal Engineering ended their first day of trading with gains of 47.94% and 76.33% respectively. Meanwhile, the IPO market continues to see varied interest, as Lalithaa Jewellery attracted high demand, while Horizon Industrial Parks concluded its offering with a more modest subscription level.
The Indian stock market witnessed two strong debuts on Wednesday as both Shiprocket and Behari Lal Engineering saw their share prices climb significantly on their listing day. Investors showed notable enthusiasm for both firms, driving shares well above their initial offering prices.
Strong Start for Shiprocket and Behari Lal
Shiprocket, the e-commerce logistics platform, closed its first day of trading at ₹143.50. This represents a 47.94% gain over its issue price of ₹97 per share. Similarly, Behari Lal Engineering experienced an even stronger reception. The engineering company’s shares finished the day at ₹502.55, marking a 76.33% premium against its issue price of ₹285.
While listing gains can be attractive, investors should remember that these early movements reflect short-term market sentiment rather than long-term business performance. Stock prices can be volatile, and listing premiums do not guarantee future returns. Analysts often suggest looking past the initial "pop" to evaluate the company's long-term earnings potential, debt levels, and business model.
Contrasting Demand in Recent IPOs
While the two debuts were successful, other recent IPOs have shown different levels of interest from investors. Lalithaa Jewellery Mart has concluded its public offering with a strong subscription rate of 62.97 times. The high demand was particularly notable among Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs), who bid over 145 times their allocated portion, suggesting institutional confidence in the brand.
In contrast, the offering for Horizon Industrial Parks Limited saw more subdued demand. The IPO closed with a total subscription of 1.52 times. This difference in subscription rates often indicates how investors perceive the specific sector, valuation, and growth prospects of each company compared to its peers.
Upcoming IPO Pipeline
Looking ahead, the IPO market remains active with the upcoming launch of Symbiotec Pharmalab Ltd. The company has set its price band between ₹938 and ₹988 per share for its ₹1,757 crore offering. The subscription window is set to open on August 24 and will close on August 27, with a tentative listing date of September 1.
Investors planning to participate in the Symbiotec Pharmalab issue may want to note that the IPO consists of a fresh issue of ₹150 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of up to ₹1,607 crore. A significant portion of the money raised from the fresh issue is intended for debt repayment and general corporate purposes. The ability of the company to effectively manage this debt and use capital efficiently will be a key factor for shareholders to monitor in the future.
