Punjab Police Foils Terror Plot in Tarn Taran

Punjab authorities arrested two suspects and recovered four hand grenades near the international border, aiming to prevent disruptions during the festive season. This operation is part of an ongoing, larger security crackdown against militant modules linked to foreign-based handlers.

Punjab law enforcement has successfully disrupted a coordinated terror plot originating from across the international border. On October 6, 2026, a joint team comprising the Tarn Taran Crime Investigation Agency and state Counter Intelligence units intercepted two individuals near Marimegha village. During the operation, officials recovered four hand grenades in the possession of the suspects, which were allegedly intended for use during the upcoming festive season.

Authorities have identified one of the suspects as Princepal Singh, a resident of Dhun village, while the second individual is a minor. Both suspects are currently under interrogation, with intelligence agencies working to map the wider network of handlers and accomplices involved. Formal charges have been filed at the Khalra police station as part of the legal proceedings.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of security forces to dismantle modules affiliated with the banned organization Babbar Khalsa International. Investigators have linked these activities to instructions provided by foreign-based handlers operating under the direction of intelligence agencies across the border. Recent months have seen an increase in such operations across Northern India, with several similar incidents involving explosives and IEDs intercepted by authorities in Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Jalandhar.

While this incident is a law enforcement matter and not a corporate or economic event, it remains a critical update for those monitoring regional stability in Northern India. The Punjab Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, has emphasized that counter-intelligence units remain on high alert to neutralize potential threats and prevent any attempt to destabilize the state. Security agencies are expected to continue their sweep operations for sleeper cells as the festive season progresses, making regional security a key monitorable in the coming weeks.
