Punjab Police ASI Suspended After Planting Drugs on CCTV

A Punjab Police officer was suspended in Khanna following viral security footage showing him planting drugs at a political leader's home. The incident led to the immediate discharge of the accused leader and the formation of a Special Investigation Team to probe the misconduct.

A major controversy has emerged in Khanna, Punjab, following the suspension of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sukhdev Singh. The action comes after clear CCTV evidence surfaced, showing the officer in plain clothes placing an object beneath a mattress at the residence of Shiv Sena leader Mahant Kashmir Giri. The video was recorded moments before a formal police team arrived to conduct a raid, during which they claimed to have discovered 30 grams of heroin in that exact location.

The discovery of the footage dismantled the case against the political leader, who has since been discharged from the charges. The incident has drawn significant public attention due to the contradiction between official police documentation and the video evidence of the narcotics being planted.

In response to the incident, Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia ordered the immediate suspension of the officer involved. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct a high-level inquiry into the matter. This investigation is tasked with determining the sequence of events and whether the officer acted under orders or as an individual participant in the operation.

The development has triggered a strong reaction from political circles, with opposition parties using the event to criticize the current state of law and order machinery. While state officials confirmed that administrative action has been taken against the officer, the incident continues to spark debate regarding the integrity and accountability of local narcotics investigations. The next critical update will be the findings of the SIT, which is expected to clarify whether this was an isolated incident or part of a wider systemic issue.
