Nifty Hits 5-Month High At 24,774; Bank Nifty Targets 58,500

The Nifty 50 index rose 1.6% to close at 24,774 on August 3, 2026, marking its highest level in five months. The rally was driven by lower oil prices and steady foreign investor buying. Investors are now monitoring whether the index can sustain momentum toward the 25,000 mark.

Indian stock markets started the month on a strong note as the Nifty 50 index broke out of a 70-day consolidation phase. The index jumped 1.6 percent to close at 24,774, its highest level since early March 2026. This move was supported by a significant recovery of over 1,100 points from the lows recorded on July 24.

Several factors contributed to this positive movement. A major influence was the easing of geopolitical tensions, which led to a decrease in global oil prices. For an energy-importing nation like India, lower oil prices are generally seen as a positive for the economy and corporate margins. Furthermore, consistent buying by foreign institutional investors and a stronger rupee against the dollar provided additional support to the market sentiment.

Market Indicators and Technical Levels

From a technical perspective, the index has moved past its 200-day exponential moving average. The Relative Strength Index, a tool used to measure momentum, climbed to 66.87, suggesting that buying strength is currently elevated. Market data from the weekly options segment indicates that the 24,500 to 24,600 range is acting as immediate support. For the index to reach the next psychological level of 25,000, it will need to maintain its position above these support zones.

The Bank Nifty also participated in the rally, climbing 1.72 percent to end the session at 58,248. The index is now approaching the 58,500 level, which analysts view as a key area to monitor. If the banking index can maintain a sustained move above the 58,700 mark, it may signal further upward potential toward 59,200. On the downside, support for the banking index is placed between 57,700 and 57,800.

Investor Context and Future Monitoring

While the current trend shows bullish momentum, the India VIX, which measures market volatility, remained relatively low at 11.92. A low VIX typically indicates that investors are not overly concerned about sudden market swings. However, market participants should continue to observe how global oil prices behave and if foreign institutional investors continue their buying streak.

The next important trend to track will be whether the Nifty can successfully clear the 24,800 to 25,000 resistance range without facing significant selling pressure. Investors should also watch for any new global developments that could change the current trajectory of oil prices, as this remains a key factor for the domestic market outlook.
