This initiative aims to address India's wide gap between daily sewage generation and current treatment capacity by shifting toward a more standardized, service-focused business model.

The startup aims to introduce a more systematic approach to the Indian wastewater treatment sector, moving away from traditional, project-led construction methods.
Standardizing Wastewater Infrastructure
Neuromod Aqua is targeting the manufacturing and assembly of modular sewage treatment plants. The founders, Anuj Arora and Anand Dad, intend to use this fresh capital to set up a dedicated manufacturing facility and advance their product development.
Instead of creating new, unproven treatment methods, the company plans to utilize established, proven technologies such as Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), and Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) systems. The strategic focus is on standardization. By moving production into a factory setting, the company hopes to improve the reliability of the design, installation, and long-term servicing of these plants, which is often a challenge in the current, fragmented market.
Tackling the Treatment Gap
There is a massive, verified demand for better water infrastructure in India. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), urban areas in India generate approximately 72,368 million liters of sewage per day. However, the installed treatment capacity is significantly lower at roughly 31,841 million liters per day, with even less capacity actually being put to use. This indicates a long-term need for significant infrastructure expansion, which creates a large potential market for companies that can efficiently bridge this gap.
Execution and Market Challenges
The wastewater sector in India has historically faced hurdles, including unpredictable project execution, cost overruns, and a lack of consistent, long-term accountability for plant maintenance. For a startup, the transition from designing modular prototypes to successful, large-scale commercial deployment in the Delhi NCR region and beyond will be the primary test.
Success will depend on how well the company can manage the setup of its new manufacturing facility and whether its modular design can actually lower costs and improve service timelines compared to traditional on-site construction. Furthermore, the company will face competition from established civil engineering and water treatment firms that already hold market share in this space.
The next important phase for the company will be the establishment of its manufacturing unit and the launch of its initial commercial projects in the Delhi NCR region.
