Overview

Google has partnered with ChangeX to launch the ‘Google Udaan India Fund’. This initiative will support up to 100 community-led projects across India, providing grants of up to ₹14 lakh per organization. Initially focusing on the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region, it aims to boost skilling, small business growth, and environmental sustainability, as part of a wider effort to increase community impact in Asia.

Expanding Support Across Asia

The fund's plans include phased rollouts in markets like Malaysia and Thailand, fitting into Google's broader strategy to deepen its community support across Asia. The company aims to strengthen its presence in local communities by focusing on development initiatives directly benefiting residents.

Focus Areas for Projects

The program will fund projects related to AI-led skilling and training, digital literacy, local entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability. Specific examples include solar energy adoption, rainwater harvesting, and watershed protection to build practical skills and promote eco-friendly solutions.

Grant Eligibility and Deadlines

Registered organizations can apply for grants of up to ₹14 lakh per project. To be eligible, proposals must meet certain criteria, including FCRA compliance for applicants in India. The deadline for the first round of applications is April 30, with more application phases planned.

Tech Sector's Grassroots Push

Google's move highlights a growing trend where major tech companies are investing in digital inclusion, economic resilience, and climate action at the local level. The collaboration with ChangeX, recognized for its effectiveness in community projects, aims to scale proven local solutions while allowing for community-driven flexibility.
