Flipkart is scaling its supply chain infrastructure in West Bengal, anchored by its large fulfillment center in Haringhata. The investment focuses on increasing storage capacity, creating jobs, and connecting local artisans and farmers to broader digital markets. This expansion aims to strengthen the company's regional logistics network for faster delivery.
Flipkart has announced a strategic expansion of its supply chain and infrastructure footprint in West Bengal. The cornerstone of this initiative is the company's massive fulfillment center located at the Haringhata campus. This facility is equipped with advanced technology, including robotic packaging systems, cross-belt sorters, and high-capacity storage that exceeds 5 million cubic feet. The center has earned a Platinum certification from the Indian Green Building Council, reflecting a focus on sustainable infrastructure design.
Scaling Infrastructure and Logistics
The company’s operational network in West Bengal has grown to include over 300 facilities, ranging from large-scale mother hubs to last-mile delivery centers. By strengthening this network, Flipkart aims to improve delivery speeds and logistics efficiency across the region. Additionally, the company is expanding its quick commerce presence through Flipkart Minutes, which currently operates roughly 90 micro-fulfillment centers in the state. These smaller hubs are designed to cater to rising demand for rapid delivery services.
Economic Impact and Local Empowerment
The expansion supports a wider ecosystem that generates an estimated 120,000 direct and indirect jobs across technology, logistics, and delivery roles. Beyond pure infrastructure, the company is actively integrating local businesses into its national platform. Through the Flipkart Samarth initiative, more than 66,000 sellers from West Bengal have gained access to a national customer base. This includes a dedicated storefront for over 29,000 artisanal products, such as traditional Shantipur Tant and Jamdani weaves. These local businesses reportedly generate over ₹100 crore in annual sales through the platform.
Collaborative Skill Development and Agriculture
Flipkart’s commitment also involves collaboration with the Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development to train local youth for roles in the digital economy. Furthermore, the Walmart Foundation is funding projects to assist over 35,000 smallholder farmers, focusing on climate-resilient farming techniques and direct market access. In the Sunderbans area, these community programs are also linked to environmental initiatives, including mangrove restoration efforts.
For investors and market observers, the primary monitorable will be the operational efficiency of the expanded network and the growth of the quick commerce segment. As e-commerce competition intensifies in India, the ability of companies to manage high-density last-mile delivery while maintaining margins remains a key factor. Future updates will likely center on how these logistics investments translate into improved delivery times and increased seller participation from regional hubs.
