The EPFO has introduced a new 'Service History' feature on its Member e-Sewa portal allowing users to view all past employment records linked to their UAN. This tool helps employees identify missing exit dates and unlinked accounts, streamlining the process for future PF transfers and withdrawals.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out a new digital tool called 'Service History' to help members manage their retirement accounts more effectively. For many Indian employees, switching jobs frequently leads to multiple Provident Fund (PF) member IDs, which can cause significant delays during claims or transfers. This new feature provides a centralized view of an individual's entire employment record, directly accessible through the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal.
Accessing and Verifying Employment Data
By logging into the portal with their Universal Account Number (UAN), members can navigate to the 'View' tab to access their service history. The dashboard presents a detailed list of all recorded employment periods, including employer names, specific member IDs, and confirmed joining and exit dates. Having this information in one place reduces the need for manual record-keeping or repeated follow-ups with past employers to confirm service details.
Why Tracking Your History Matters
The feature serves as a proactive tool to spot administrative errors that often remain hidden. One of the most common issues for PF account holders is an unrecorded date of exit, which prevents the final settlement or transfer of funds from older accounts. By using this tool, employees can verify that each past job is correctly accounted for and linked to their primary UAN. It also allows individuals to identify and flag discrepancies while records are still accessible, making it easier to coordinate corrections with former organizations.
Managing UAN and KYC Compliance
The tool also provides a way to check for duplicate UANs. Although EPFO regulations require each member to hold only one UAN, technical or clerical errors in the past have led some individuals to hold more than one. Consolidating all employment history under a single UAN is essential for the smooth operation of retirement accounts. Beyond tracking service history, members should ensure that their KYC information—such as Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account details—is correctly updated on the portal. Mismatches in KYC data are frequently cited as a primary reason for the rejection or delay of online PF claims. Keeping these records accurate ensures that when a member eventually applies for a withdrawal or transfer, the process can be completed digitally without the need for physical visits to an EPFO office.
