Banks Closed in Odisha, Uttarakhand, Manipur Today, July 16

Bank branches in Odisha, Uttarakhand, and Manipur are closed today, July 16, 2026, due to regional festivals. While physical branch services like cash deposits and cheque processing are suspended in these states, digital and mobile banking remain fully operational for customers.

Bank branches in select Indian states will remain closed on Thursday, July 16, 2026, to mark regional festive holidays. According to the Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar, the closures are in effect for Odisha, Uttarakhand, and Manipur.

The holidays are linked to the observance of Rath Yatra and the Harela festival. Rath Yatra is widely celebrated in Odisha, particularly in Puri, while the Harela festival is a significant agricultural event in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, traditionally marking the onset of the monsoon and the sowing season. In Manipur, the holiday is observed for Kang, or Rathajatra.

For customers residing in these states, standard physical banking operations such as over-the-counter cash deposits, cheque clearances, and demand draft issuance are unavailable at bank branches today. These services will resume on the next business day. It is important to note that these closures are state-specific; banking services in other parts of the country will function as usual.

Despite the branch closures, the Reserve Bank of India and major financial institutions like State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank emphasize that digital banking infrastructure remains unaffected. Customers can continue to use internet banking, mobile applications, and automated teller machines for essential transactions.

Looking ahead at the remainder of July 2026, the RBI calendar indicates further regional holidays. Meghalaya will observe a bank holiday on July 17 for the Death Anniversary of U Tirot Sing, followed by Sikkim on July 18 for Drukpa Tshe-zi, and Tripura on July 22 for Kharchi Puja. Beyond these state-specific dates, all bank branches across India remain closed on the remaining Sundays of the month and the fourth Saturday, July 25, in accordance with the standard monthly holiday schedule.
