Chennai-based Anicut Capital aims to raise ₹3,000 crore across four new funds over the next 18 months. The firm has already secured ₹500-600 crore, with a significant portion dedicated to private credit for bridge and acquisition financing. This move highlights a shift toward domestic capital sources amid changing global investment trends.
Chennai-based alternative asset manager Anicut Capital has announced a major fundraising initiative, aiming to secure ₹3,000 crore to bolster its investment portfolio. This target is planned to be met within the next 15 to 18 months. The firm intends to deploy this capital across four distinct funds, with three dedicated to equity strategies and one focused on private credit.
Allocation and Investment Strategy
Out of the total target, Anicut Capital has already confirmed commitments of ₹500 to ₹600 crore from its limited partners. The firm plans to direct 60% of the total raised capital into its private credit fund. This credit strategy primarily targets corporate financing needs such as bridge loans, acquisition support, and buyout financing. The firm emphasizes a focus on companies that maintain positive cash flow and demonstrate disciplined management of their accounts receivable.
The remaining capital will be divided among three equity funds. These funds are designed to cater to various stages of business development, including early-stage, Series A, and late-stage investments. The firm’s equity strategy is currently focusing on sectors like consumer goods, financial services, and specific manufacturing segments, though it retains the flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions.
Capital Deployment and Scale
Anicut Capital currently manages approximately ₹4,500 crore in assets across six existing funds, which are split equally between private credit and equity. The firm’s recent track record includes the closure of its Growth Fund IV in December 2025, with over 90% of that corpus already put to work in various businesses. For the new funds, the company expects to provide cheque sizes ranging from ₹20 crore to ₹80 crore for equity deals, and between ₹30 crore and ₹100 crore for debt disbursements.
Market Perspective and Future Monitorables
Management has noted a shift in the investment environment, observing that foreign investor interest in India has recently cooled due to a combination of geopolitical tensions, fluctuating oil prices, and broader macroeconomic volatility. Despite this, the firm remains optimistic about the growth of domestic capital pools from family offices, institutions, and high-net-worth individuals.
Investors may watch for the firm's progress in meeting its ₹3,000 crore goal, as the pace of deployment will be a key indicator of its ability to identify viable investment opportunities in a tightening market. Furthermore, the firm has pointed to the current slowdown in the IPO market as a potential area for opportunity, as companies seeking capital may look toward private funding sources, potentially offering better valuations for investors. The primary monitorables moving forward will be the firm's ability to maintain its deployment speed and the performance of its private credit portfolio in a high-interest rate environment.
