Sectoral Mutual Fund Inflows Jump 127% in June to ₹1,469 Crore

Inflows into sectoral and thematic mutual funds rose to ₹1,469 crore in June, a 127% increase from May. While this category saw the fastest growth, it remains below earlier 2026 peaks. Mid-cap and small-cap funds continued to attract higher absolute investments during the same period.

Investor interest in sectoral and thematic mutual funds saw a sharp recovery in June 2026. Data from the industry shows that net inflows into these specialized funds climbed to ₹1,469 crore, up significantly from ₹648 crore in May. This 126.8% month-on-month growth represents the fastest recovery rate among all equity mutual fund categories for the month.

Sectoral and thematic funds focus on specific industries or themes rather than a diversified mix of stocks. Because of this, their performance is closely tied to the specific sectors they cover, making them more volatile than broad-based funds. While the June rebound is a notable shift, it follows a period of cooling interest; inflows in June were still about 25% lower than those recorded in April and 46% below the levels seen in March 2026. The total assets under management for this category rose to approximately ₹5.46 lakh crore, up from ₹5.34 lakh crore in May.

Despite the rapid growth in percentage terms, these funds did not attract the most money in absolute terms during June. Investors continued to favor broad-based equity strategies. Mid-cap funds maintained their lead as the top choice, bringing in ₹6,090 crore in net inflows. Small-cap funds followed with ₹5,602 crore, while flexi-cap funds recorded ₹5,231 crore. Across all equity categories, total inflows reached ₹28,973 crore, marking a 26.5% increase compared to the previous month.

For investors, the recent data highlights that while specialized sectoral funds are seeing renewed interest, they represent a smaller portion of overall equity inflows compared to diversified options like mid-cap and small-cap funds. As sectoral funds are inherently more concentrated, their future performance will depend heavily on the growth and regulatory environment of the specific industries they track. Investors may want to look at the underlying sector trends and their own risk tolerance before opting for these specialized strategies over broad-based mutual funds.
