Groww Captures 44% of New SIPs; Quarterly Profit Up 54%

Brokerage platform Groww reported a strong September quarter, with net profit rising 54% to Rs 725 crore. The company captured 43.6% of all new systematic investment plan (SIP) registrations, pushing its direct mutual fund assets to Rs 2.06 lakh crore. This growth reflects the ongoing shift of Indian retail investors toward digital brokerage platforms, though the sector faces challenges from intense competition and regulatory scrutiny.

Groww has reported strong growth in the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, as retail interest in Indian equity markets continues to rise. The digital brokerage platform, operated by Nextbillion Technology, captured 43.6% of all new systematic investment plan (SIP) registrations during the quarter. This milestone highlights the platform's ability to attract individual investors, helping it maintain a significant footprint in the retail investment space.

The company’s financial performance showed a sharp upward trend, with net profit rising 54% year-on-year to Rs 725 crore. Operational revenue also saw a significant increase, growing 47% to reach Rs 1,502 crore. Direct mutual fund assets managed on the platform stood at Rs 2.06 lakh crore at the end of September, marking a 45.9% increase over the same period last year.

The platform now reports 2.4 crore transacting users, which demonstrates the scale of digital adoption among the Indian middle class. This growth aligns with a broader trend of retail investors moving away from traditional banks and distributors toward discount brokers. In this space, Groww competes with established players like Zerodha, Angel One, and Upstox. While Groww has gained significant market share in SIP flows, the discount brokerage sector remains intensely competitive, with companies constantly vying for users through low costs, technological ease, and product diversification.

For investors and market observers, it is important to note that the digital brokerage model is highly sensitive to market sentiment. A downturn in equity markets could impact trading volumes and, consequently, revenue. Additionally, the Indian securities regulator, SEBI, has maintained a close watch on digital brokers regarding data privacy, system stability, and investment advice. Managing platform glitches and ensuring cybersecurity are operational risks that all digital brokers must navigate to maintain user trust and avoid regulatory friction.

Looking ahead, market observers will watch whether the company can maintain this pace of user acquisition in a crowded market and how it balances aggressive growth with long-term profitability. The sustainability of SIP inflows will remain a key indicator of retail investor sentiment toward Indian equities, as well as the platform's ability to retain and engage its existing user base over time.
