Equity Ex-Top 100 Strategies Lead SIF Returns In July

Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs) using Equity Ex-Top 100 strategies outperformed the broader market in July with an average return of 3.91%. Quant Mutual Fund dominated the rankings, while total SIF assets reached Rs 17,857 crore by June 2026. This performance highlights growing interest in these SEBI-regulated products, which bridge the gap between traditional mutual funds and portfolio management services.

Specialized Investment Funds, known as SIFs, have shown strong momentum as of July 2026. Data shows that Equity Ex-Top 100 strategies were the best performers in the category, delivering an average monthly return of 3.91%. This significantly outperformed the Nifty 500 index, which recorded a modest gain of 0.52% during the same period.

Top Performing Strategies

Quant Mutual Fund’s qSIF AAA strategy emerged as the leader for the month, posting an 8.26% return. The firm also secured the second position with its qSIF Ex-Top 100 strategy, which gained 7.70%. Other strategies like 360 ONE's DynaSIF Ex-Top 100 and Tata Mutual Fund's Titanium Equity also posted positive results of 4.40% and 3.37%, respectively. While these returns reflect specific monthly performance, investors should remember that SIFs are designed as alternative investment vehicles that can carry different risk profiles compared to standard mutual funds.

Asset Growth and Market Participation

Introduced by SEBI in April 2025, SIFs are steadily gaining traction among investors. By the end of June 2026, the total assets under management across all SIF categories stood at Rs 17,857.77 crore. Hybrid Long-Short strategies currently hold the largest portion of these assets, accounting for Rs 11,909.50 crore. Investor engagement is also visible through the growth in folios, which reached 75,032 by the end of June. Of this, Hybrid Long-Short strategies lead with 34,000 folios, followed by Equity Ex-Top 100 strategies with 20,615 folios.

Performance Across Other Categories

Not all SIF strategies followed the same upward trend in July. While Active Asset Allocator strategies returned 3.85%, Equity Long Short and Hybrid Long Short strategies posted lower average gains of 2.21% and 1.64%, respectively. The Sector Rotation category faced pressure during the month, recording a decline of 0.87%.

As the SIF space matures, more players are entering the market. Firms including Invesco Mutual Fund, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund, and Jio BlackRock Mutual Fund have recently begun reporting the performance of their strategies. Investors tracking this space may want to monitor how these new entries impact category returns and whether the current outperformance of Equity Ex-Top 100 strategies remains consistent over longer time horizons. Since SIFs allow for more complex investment styles, the actual performance will depend heavily on the specific strategy mandate and the manager's ability to navigate market volatility compared to standard diversified funds.
