Sunshine Pictures IPO To Open Aug 18; Price Band Set At Rs 342-360

Sunshine Pictures, the production house behind 'The Kerala Story', is set to launch its Rs 282.14 crore IPO on August 18. The offering includes a fresh issue and an offer-for-sale by the promoters. Investors should note the company's business is dependent on hit films, which creates revenue volatility.

Sunshine Pictures, the production house known for films including 'The Kerala Story', is set to enter the public market with its initial public offering (IPO) opening on August 18, 2026. The company is aiming to raise Rs 282.14 crore through this issue, which will remain open for subscription until August 20, 2026.

The IPO is structured in two parts. The company is offering fresh equity shares to raise approximately Rs 172.8 crore, which management intends to use primarily for working capital requirements to support daily operations. Additionally, the promoters, Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Shefali Shah, are selling shares worth Rs 109.34 crore through an offer-for-sale. The price band for the issue has been fixed at Rs 342 to Rs 360 per share, with investors required to apply for a minimum of 41 shares.

For investors, the primary monitorable is the company’s business model. Production houses often see significant fluctuations in revenue and profit because their income depends heavily on the commercial success of individual film and content releases. For the fiscal year ended March 2026, the company reported a standalone profit of Rs 40.02 crore on revenue of Rs 74.4 crore. However, a look at the consolidated performance for the year ended March 2025 showed a decline in profit by 35.4 percent to Rs 34.5 crore, compared to Rs 53.3 crore in the previous year. Revenue also fell by 22.8 percent during that period. This pattern highlights the potential for earnings to vary significantly from year to year.

The film production sector carries inherent risks, including the concentration of revenue among a few distributors and the uncertainty of audience reception for new content. Since the company’s financial health is tied to its production pipeline and the box-office or streaming success of its projects, future results may not always be consistent. Investors should be aware that the media and entertainment industry is highly competitive and sensitive to changing audience preferences.

Of the total IPO size, 50 percent is reserved for qualified institutional buyers, while 35 percent is allocated for retail investors, and 15 percent for non-institutional investors. The company is expected to finalize share allotment on August 21, and the stock is scheduled to list on the BSE and NSE on August 25, 2026. The final impact on the company's long-term value will depend on its ability to sustain a consistent project pipeline and manage the costs associated with producing and distributing content.
