Sunshine Pictures IPO: Anchor Book Raises ₹85 Cr Ahead of Issue

Sunshine Pictures has raised ₹84.64 crore from nine anchor investors ahead of its ₹282.14 crore IPO, opening for public subscription from August 18 to August 20, 2026. With a price band of ₹342–₹360 per share, the company aims to use proceeds primarily for working capital. Investors should weigh the production house's strong profit margins against the inherent risks of the project-based entertainment industry.

Sunshine Pictures, the film production house behind movies such as "The Kerala Story," has finalized its anchor book allocation, securing ₹84.64 crore from institutional investors on August 17, 2026. This fundraising comes just ahead of the company's initial public offering (IPO), which will be open for public bidding from August 18 to August 20, 2026.

The anchor portion saw participation from nine investors, including names like Uni Growth Fund, Khandelwal Finance, and Zeal Global Opportunities Fund. The company allocated 23.51 lakh shares to these participants at ₹360 per share, which is the upper end of the price band set for the public offer.

The total IPO size stands at ₹282.14 crore. This includes a fresh issue of shares worth ₹172.80 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) component of ₹109.34 crore by existing promoters. The company has stated that it intends to use a significant portion of the money raised from the fresh issue for working capital requirements, which essentially covers the day-to-day costs involved in producing films, such as marketing, distribution, and production fees.

From a financial perspective, the company reported a standalone profit of ₹40.02 crore on revenues of ₹74.73 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2026. The firm maintains healthy profit margins, with the profit-after-tax (PAT) margin standing at approximately 53.77% and the EBITDA margin at 78.65%. Additionally, the company operates with low debt levels, with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.06x, which may be a point of interest for investors looking at balance sheet strength.

However, potential investors should consider the unique risks of the film production business. Revenue in this sector is often volatile and "lumpy," meaning it depends heavily on the commercial success of a limited number of film releases. If a specific project fails to resonate with the audience, it can significantly impact the company's annual financial performance. The business also faces customer concentration risk, as it relies on partnerships with a few key studios and distributors, and it is dependent on the ability to attract and retain creative talent.

Market observers will be watching the subscription numbers closely as the issue opens to the public. Following the closure of the subscription period on August 20, the company is tentatively scheduled to list its shares on the NSE and BSE on August 25, 2026. The final decision for investors will depend on how the market perceives the company's ability to maintain its profit margins in an unpredictable industry.
