Sun TV Network reported a net profit of ₹365 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026, up 3% from the ₹355 crore reported in the same quarter last year. This growth occurred despite a significant contraction in top-line performance, with consolidated revenue falling 30% to ₹940 crore compared to ₹1,300 crore in the previous year.
The decline in revenue was primarily driven by weak advertising income, which decreased to ₹253 crore from ₹292 crore a year ago. In contrast, domestic subscription revenue provided a buffer, growing by 2.34% to reach ₹487 crore. The stability in subscription income indicates that the company’s core viewer base remains intact despite the volatility in advertising spending across the media sector.
The sports segment, under the SunRisers Leeds initiative, contributed ₹99 crore to the company's revenue. Investors are monitoring this segment as a potential driver of non-broadcast income, which could help offset the fluctuations often seen in traditional television advertising cycles.
Alongside the quarterly results, the board announced an interim dividend of ₹3.75 per share, representing 75% on a face value of ₹5 per share. The company also announced leadership continuity, with the board approving the re-appointment of Kalanithi Maran as Executive Chairman and Kavery Kalanithi as Executive Director. Both appointments are for a five-year term, effective April 20, 2027.
Going forward, shareholders will likely watch for a recovery in advertising revenue and the ability of the sports business to scale effectively. The company's ability to maintain profit growth despite revenue pressure suggests a strategy of cost management, which investors may monitor in future financial filings.
