Saregama Q1 Profit Rises 41% to ₹51.6 Crore

Saregama India reported a 41% jump in first-quarter net profit to ₹51.6 crore, supported by a 27.5% increase in revenue. The growth was led by strong performance in its core music licensing business and a sharp rise in live events revenue. Investors may track whether the company can maintain these improved profit margins amid ongoing investments in new music content.

Saregama India, part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, delivered a strong financial performance for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026. The company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹51.6 crore, representing a 40.6% increase compared to ₹36.7 crore in the same quarter last year. Revenue from operations also rose significantly by 27.5% to ₹263.6 crore.

Operational Growth and Profit Margins

The company’s profitability saw a notable boost during the quarter. The adjusted EBITDA, which measures operational profitability before accounting for interest, taxes, and other expenses, climbed 69% to reach ₹112.4 crore. As a result, the adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 42%, up from 32% in the corresponding period of the previous year. This improvement reflects the company's ability to generate more profit from its existing music library and operations as it scales its digital and live events businesses.

Business Drivers and Revenue Mix

The music segment remains the core pillar of the business, contributing heavily to the total revenue. This segment reported a 39% increase in revenue to ₹230.6 crore. Saregama continues to focus on building its intellectual property by releasing over 750 new tracks across various Indian languages during the quarter. The company also expanded its artist roster to 309, which helps in maintaining a constant supply of new content for streaming platforms and other digital channels.

Beyond recorded music, the live events segment emerged as a significant contributor, recording a 214% surge in revenue. This segment includes concerts, devotional programs, and comedy shows, indicating a diversification of income streams beyond traditional licensing. The company is also leveraging its library for brand collaborations, working with major names such as Hindustan Unilever, Visa, and Myntra, which provides an additional layer of revenue stability.

Strategic Focus and Future Monitoring

Saregama’s strategy involves continuous spending on acquiring and producing new music content, which is essential to stay competitive in the digital streaming era. While this investment is necessary to maintain its business advantage, it also represents a recurring capital outlay. Investors may monitor the company’s ability to balance these content-related expenses with the need to keep profit margins stable. Another key monitorable is the sustainability of the explosive growth seen in the live events segment, as this business can be subject to seasonal demand and varying event-related costs. The management's commentary on the long-term trend for music licensing prices and digital audience reach will be important for understanding how the company intends to sustain its performance in the coming quarters.
