PVR INOX Reports ₹56.5 Crore Profit; Turns Net Cash Positive

PVR INOX posted a net profit of ₹56.5 crore for the June quarter of FY27, marking a turnaround from a loss of ₹47.3 crore in the same period last year. Driven by a 16% rise in ticket sales and higher food revenue, the company achieved a net cash positive status. Investors are now tracking the company's plan to add 90-100 new screens this fiscal year.

Detailed Coverage

Cinema exhibitor PVR INOX has reported a consolidated net profit of ₹56.5 crore for the first quarter ending June 30, 2026. This performance signals a recovery for the company, which recorded a loss of ₹47.3 crore during the corresponding period in the previous year. Revenue from operations grew to ₹1,622.2 crore, compared to ₹1,449.6 crore in the year-ago period.

The improvement in financial performance was supported by increased consumer spending at theatres. The company recorded 36.6 million admissions, representing an 8% increase. Additionally, the average ticket price rose by 8% to ₹273, while spending per head on food and beverages increased by 9% to ₹161. These factors contributed to a 16% growth in ticket sales and a 17% increase in food and beverage revenue.

Operational Efficiency and Debt Reduction

Profitability was bolstered by a significant rise in operating margins. EBITDA for the quarter stood at ₹229.6 crore, a 90% increase over the previous year, with margins improving to 14% from 8.2%. The company’s focus on streamlining costs and improving operating leverage played a key role in this expansion. PVR INOX has also reached a net cash positive position of ₹80.7 crore, a shift from the net debt of ₹1,430 crore reported following the merger of PVR and INOX.

Growth Strategy and Future Outlook

Moving forward, PVR INOX plans to expand its footprint by opening 90 to 100 new screens in FY27. The company is primarily adopting an asset-light model for this expansion, which involves lower capital spending compared to owning properties. This strategy is designed to maintain financial flexibility while growing market presence.

While the company expects the theatrical sector to continue its recovery, the performance remains dependent on the consistency of the content pipeline. The upcoming schedule includes major releases such as "Ramayana Part 1," "Avengers: Doomsday," and "Dune: Part Three." Investors may monitor how these high-profile titles perform in premium large-screen formats, as such films are crucial for maintaining higher average ticket prices and spending per head. Future updates will likely center on the execution of the new screen rollout and whether the company can sustain its current profitability margins amid potential fluctuations in movie performance and consumer discretionary spending.
