Netflix, IICT Offer 100 Scholarships to Boost India's Creative Talent

Netflix and the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) are providing 100 scholarships covering up to 80% of fees for specialized AVGC courses. This initiative is part of the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative launched in August 2026 to strengthen India’s creative workforce. Applications remain open until September 1, 2026.

Netflix and the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) have launched a scholarship program offering financial support to 100 students. The initiative covers up to 80% of the tuition costs for six specialized programs aimed at developing expertise in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector.

The scholarship program is a key part of the 'Netflix India Storytelling Initiative,' a project announced on August 5, 2026. This broader effort was initiated following discussions between Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative focuses on building a skilled talent pipeline within India to support the country's growing 'Orange Economy,' a term used to describe the creative and cultural industries.

The scholarships are available for two one-year diploma programs, specifically 'Interactive Comics & Sequential Arts' and 'Visual Effects Mastery.' Additionally, four six-month certificate courses are covered, including 'Virtual Art Department Content Creation,' 'Media Tech Workflow,' 'Art of Character Animation,' and 'E-Sports & Gaming Management.'

For investors and industry observers, this partnership highlights Netflix's long-term strategy to ensure a steady supply of high-quality creative talent in India. By contributing to curriculum development for courses like 'Visual Effects Mastery' and 'Media Tech Workflow,' the company aims to align training programs with the specific technical standards required for global content production. This investment in human capital is intended to create a sustainable ecosystem for local content creation rather than representing a direct revenue-generating event.

IICT, which serves as a national center of excellence for the AVGC-XR sector, operates through a collaborative partnership involving the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the Government of Maharashtra, FICCI, and CII. While the initiative is strategically important for content production capabilities, it is a corporate social responsibility and talent-development program. It does not carry material financial risks or expected immediate impact on Netflix’s global financial performance.

Applications for these scholarships are currently open and are scheduled to close on September 1, 2026. The key monitorable for the creative sector will be the successful intake of students and the eventual integration of these graduates into the industry’s workforce.
