Maddock Films Charts Ambitious 5-Year Plan: Seven New Horror-Comedies to Drive Franchise Growth

Maddock Films, the production house behind culturally resonant movies, is embarking on an ambitious expansion, planning seven new horror-comedy films over the next five years. Founder Dinesh Vijan announced this strategy, emphasizing a focus on franchise-led growth and interconnected intellectual property (IP). This approach aims to create repeatable success, a model that has provided Maddock Films a competitive edge as the Bollywood industry grapples with fluctuating demand and changing viewer habits.

Vijan believes that familiarity-driven cinematic universes thrive when not oversaturated, suggesting that three to four films over several years is the ideal frequency. The studio's strategy prioritizes building sustainable, long-term franchises rather than chasing fleeting trends. This focus on unique, audacious stories, drawing from India's rich cultural reservoir, has helped Maddock Films maintain stability, unlike larger productions that have faced box office challenges.

Beyond traditional filmmaking, Vijan identified smartphones and short-form video as significant threats to theatrical releases, pushing Maddock Films towards a screen-agnostic strategy. This means developing IP that can seamlessly transition across cinema, Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms, and mobile devices.

Furthermore, Vijan highlighted Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a transformative force in filmmaking, predicting that advancements in photoreal image generation and more affordable, sharper Visual Effects (VFX) will reshape the industry's economics within 18-24 months. While AI offers potential for enhanced visual quality and wider market reach, it also intensifies competition by empowering more storytellers.

Maddock Films' upcoming major release is 'Ikkis', a war drama directed by Sriram Raghavan, focusing on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. This project, alongside its commercial franchises, signals the studio's commitment to high-quality, prestige storytelling.
