Subscription Tier Adjustments
JioHotstar announced significant price adjustments impacting its Super and Premium subscription tiers, set to take effect on January 28, 2026. The changes aim to reflect evolving viewership habits, particularly the rise in connected TV and multi-device streaming.
New Pricing Structure
Annual pricing for the Premium tier will increase from ₹1,499 to ₹2,199, a jump of ₹700. Similarly, the Super tier's annual subscription price is rising from ₹899 to ₹1,099. Quarterly plans for both tiers have also seen increases, with Super moving from ₹299 to ₹349 and Premium from ₹499 to ₹699. The company is also introducing new monthly subscription options across all categories. Mobile viewers can now opt for a monthly plan at ₹79, while Super and Premium tiers will offer monthly plans at ₹149 and ₹299, respectively.
Content Access and Existing Subscribers
New users subscribing to Super and Premium tiers will gain access to Hollywood content. Mobile subscribers can access this content via a paid add-on. Importantly, existing subscribers who maintain active auto-renewal will continue to pay their current rates, shielding them from immediate price hikes.
Strategic Rationale
Sushant Sreeram, Head of SVOD Business & Chief Marketing Officer at JioStar, stated that the pricing reset acknowledges the shift towards home-based streaming and large-screen consumption. "We are constantly investing and inventing to ensure we provide viewers not just the world's best entertainment but also the world's best viewing and access experience," Sreeram said, emphasizing the platform's commitment to investing in premium storytelling, live sports, and a high-quality streaming experience at scale.
