Celebrity Brand Values: Digital Reach Now Tops Box Office

The 2025 Kroll Celebrity Brand Valuation report reveals that digital presence is now more valuable than box-office performance for ad deals. Digital endorsements currently make up 60-75% of total volumes, with Shah Rukh Khan leading the rankings despite no recent film releases. However, the overall market for celebrity endorsements has seen a 3.7% decline, indicating a cooling trend in total advertising spending.

The Indian celebrity endorsement landscape is undergoing a structural change where social media engagement is becoming a stronger predictor of value than cinematic box-office success. According to the Kroll Celebrity Brand Valuation 2025 report released on August 5, 2026, brands are increasingly prioritizing a celebrity's consistent digital footprint over the short-term spikes generated by film releases. Digital endorsements now account for 60-75% of total deal volumes, a sharp increase from the 40-60% seen just a few years ago.

Shah Rukh Khan Leads the Digital Shift

Shah Rukh Khan continues to hold the top spot in India’s celebrity brand valuation for 2025, with an estimated value of $177.9 million. This ranking is particularly notable because it was achieved without a major recent film release, highlighting that modern advertisers value his ability to maintain a steady, controversy-free online presence and connect with audiences daily. For brands, this represents a lower-risk investment compared to relying on the volatile performance of a single movie, where audience reception can be unpredictable.

Market Context and Risks

While digital demand is high, the overall celebrity endorsement market is showing signs of contraction. The total valuation of India’s top 25 celebrity brands dropped by 3.7% in 2025 to $2 billion. This decline suggests that while digital relevance is crucial for individual stars, the broader advertising spend on celebrity endorsements may be facing macro pressure.

Other top-tier celebrities like Ranveer Singh, valued at $162.9 million, and Virat Kohli, at $158.4 million, also continue to dominate the space by leveraging strong, consistent personal brands. For investors and industry observers, the key monitorable is whether this digital-first approach can stabilize the total market valuation in the coming year, or if brands will continue to tighten their celebrity endorsement budgets despite the focus on social media engagement.
