Apple Increases Music and Bundle Subscription Rates in India

Apple has raised monthly subscription fees for Apple Music and Apple One bundles in India, citing higher licensing costs. The price hikes affect individual, student, and family plans, reflecting a broader global trend of rising service costs for the technology giant.

Apple has implemented a price increase for its music and bundle subscription services in India, marking a direct rise in the monthly cost for its users. The adjustment applies across various categories, including the Apple Music Individual, Student, and Family plans, alongside its bundled service offerings known as Apple One.

New Pricing Structure for Services

The Apple Music Individual plan is now priced at ₹139 per month, reflecting an increase from the previous ₹119. Students will see their monthly subscription rise to ₹69 from ₹59. Meanwhile, the Family plan, which supports up to six members under a shared account, has moved from ₹179 to ₹229 per month.

In addition to standalone music services, Apple has adjusted the rates for its Apple One bundles, which provide a combination of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud storage. The Individual bundle now costs ₹195 per month, up from ₹175. The Family bundle is priced at ₹445 compared to the earlier ₹365, while the Premier tier has risen to ₹595 from ₹499 monthly.

Factors Influencing the Price Change

The company has attributed these revisions to the rising costs of music licensing fees paid to record labels, publishers, and artists. These fees represent a significant operational overhead for streaming platforms, which must pay for the rights to host and distribute music content. Apple has clarified that these new prices are not tied to the addition of any new features or service benefits, but are instead a response to these escalating costs.

This pricing strategy follows a pattern of recent increases seen in other international markets, including the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. Furthermore, the company has previously implemented price adjustments across its hardware portfolio, including iPads, Macs, and HomePods, which the company has linked to higher component costs and global supply chain pressures.

Investor Context and Next Steps

For investors and market watchers, this move highlights how subscription-based business models manage margin pressure in the face of rising content and licensing costs. While these services provide recurring revenue, they are sensitive to the pricing of the content they host. As Apple continues to shift its focus toward its services segment to complement hardware sales, the ability to pass on rising licensing costs to consumers without causing a significant drop in subscriber growth will be a key performance indicator. Future quarterly reports from the parent company will likely provide more clarity on how these pricing changes impact the overall growth and profitability of the services division in the Indian market.
