Society of Indian Law Firms Opens New Dispute Resolution Centre, Pushing for Data-Driven Settlements Amidst Litigation Crisis

The Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) has officially opened its new headquarters and a dedicated Dispute Resolution Centre, located opposite the Rouse Avenue Courts Complex in Delhi. During the inauguration, SILF President Dr. Lalit Bhasin stated that the Indian litigation system has "completely broken down," citing an overwhelming number of over six crore pending cases. He emphasized the urgent need for the legal fraternity to shift focus towards data-driven settlements as the primary mode of dispute resolution, noting that arbitration has yet to gain full traction due to a lack of robust institutions.

The new Centre is equipped with modern conference and video-conferencing facilities and is positioned as a hub for SILF's activities. Dr. Bhasin acknowledged the significant contribution of Bina Modi, Chairperson of Modi Enterprises, towards realizing this vision, which also honors her late husband, K.K. Modi.

SILF aims for the Centre to symbolize professional social responsibility and serve as a platform for pro bono dispute settlement, embodying the spirit of "Samjhauta" (compromise). Beyond dispute resolution, SILF intends to actively contribute to the nation's legislative and policy frameworks by assisting the government in rationalizing laws, legal drafting, and promoting investment-friendly reforms. Marking its 25th year, SILF has evolved into a national think-tank recognized for its contributions to law reform.

Attorney General for India R Venkataramani, who inaugurated the Centre, praised SILF for strengthening India's law firm ecosystem and fostering collaboration. He referred to SILF as an "outstanding accomplishment of India's legal fraternity." V Lakshmikumaran, Founder and Managing Partner of Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan, spoke about the joy of giving knowledge and experience selflessly.
