Supreme Court Warns Rajpal Yadav In Cheque-Bounce Case

The Supreme Court has issued a stern warning to actor Rajpal Yadav for failing to deposit ₹2 crore in a long-standing cheque-bounce dispute. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, has set a final deadline of October 6, 2026, for the payment, cautioning of potential legal consequences. The case, involving M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, centers on unpaid dues from a 2010 financial agreement that have significantly escalated.

The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued a stern warning to actor Rajpal Yadav regarding his ongoing failure to comply with court-ordered financial dues in a long-standing cheque-bounce dispute. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, expressed sharp dissatisfaction with the actor’s lack of compliance, rejecting his counsel’s attempt to submit a partial payment of ₹50 lakh.

The current legal friction stems from a 2013 case involving a ₹5 crore loan taken in 2010, which the actor failed to repay as agreed. The complainant, M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, asserts that the total outstanding liability, inclusive of interest, has grown significantly over the years and reportedly exceeds ₹11 crore.

The court had previously set a deadline of September 15 for the actor to deposit ₹2 crore with the court registry as a condition for avoiding immediate custody. Having missed this deadline, the actor’s legal team requested further time, but the bench remained unmoved. During the hearing, the court emphasized that the current situation puts the actor at risk of losing his legal standing, which could potentially lead to the dismissal of his appeals and immediate custodial repercussions.

The bench has granted the actor a final opportunity to deposit the full ₹2 crore by Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The matter is now scheduled for further proceedings on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. This legal battle follows a July 10 ruling by the Delhi High Court, which had upheld the actor's conviction in multiple cheque-bounce cases, imposing a prison sentence and rejecting a plea regarding a significant delay in filing an appeal. For the actor, the upcoming hearing serves as a critical junction, as the court has made it clear that judicial patience regarding the repayment schedule has been exhausted.
