SIT Finalizing Report on Ram Temple Donation Theft Case

A Special Investigation Team is set to submit its report on the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple today. The findings will detail procedural lapses and potential accountability, while recommending reforms to donation management systems to prevent future financial irregularities.

A three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) is expected to submit its final report today regarding the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The panel, which was granted a 15-day extension to conclude its inquiry, will present its findings to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad. This investigation follows allegations concerning the misappropriation of funds offered by devotees at the temple.

The investigation has focused on identifying specific lapses in the temple’s donation handling processes. This includes the entire lifecycle of offerings, from the collection and movement of donation boxes to the counting process, banking procedures, and internal audit mechanisms. By analyzing CCTV footage, electronic records, and witness testimonies, the SIT has aimed to determine how security or administrative oversight may have failed to detect the alleged embezzlement.

To establish a clear financial trail, the probe has involved collaboration between the Ayodhya Police and the Income Tax Department. Investigators have conducted a detailed audit of nearly 50 bank accounts connected to the eight individuals already arrested in connection with the case. This financial analysis, which covers transactions dating back to 2022, is designed to track fund flows, identify potential beneficiaries, and locate any assets linked to the alleged misappropriation.

Beyond identifying those responsible, the upcoming report is expected to provide a framework for systemic improvements. The SIT is likely to propose significant changes to how the temple manages, monitors, and audits donations. These recommendations aim to strengthen access controls and documentation to ensure higher transparency for devotee contributions.

For stakeholders and the public, the primary monitorables following this submission will be the government's response to the SIT's recommendations and the subsequent legal proceedings against the accused. The report is expected to clarify whether the identified lapses warrant further action under anti-corruption or other financial laws, which will determine the next steps in addressing the security of temple finances.
