Pappu Yadav Faces Police Complaint Over Parliament Protest Skit

Independent MP Pappu Yadav is under police scrutiny following a complaint regarding a protest skit held outside Parliament. The complaint alleges that his performance mocked religious sentiments by depicting the theft of Ram Temple donations. This incident has intensified political tensions between the ruling BJP and the INDIA opposition bloc.

Independent Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav is facing a formal police complaint filed at the Jahangirpuri police station in Delhi. The complaint stems from a protest held by members of the INDIA bloc on July 31 near the Makar Dwar within the Parliament premises. The legal action alleges that a skit performed during this demonstration offended Hindu religious sentiments and insulted the Sanatan community.

During the protest, which focused on allegations regarding the management of donations for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, opposition members placed donation boxes on the steps of the Parliament building. In the staged act, Pappu Yadav wore saffron robes and acted as a priest. The performance involved opposition MPs placing funds into the boxes while Yadav pretended to pocket the money, a gesture intended to symbolize the alleged embezzlement of temple funds.

The complaint, which was recorded by authorities on Friday night, also names prominent political figures, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav, and MP Awadhesh Kumar, alleging their involvement in the act. The District Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) has indicated that the matter will be reviewed, and legal opinion will be sought before authorities decide on further steps.

The incident has sparked a sharp political reaction. BJP MP Anurag Thakur publicly criticized the demonstration, accusing the participants of insulting faith, traditional symbols, and Lord Ram. He stated that the act was unacceptable and alleged that opposition parties consistently demean the Sanatan faith. Conversely, the opposition bloc has maintained that their protest was a political move to demand government accountability and highlight their concerns regarding the handling of temple donations.

This controversy arises amidst heightened political discourse, particularly as parties prepare for upcoming state assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The core monitorable for the public and market observers will be whether the police investigation leads to further legal proceedings or if the matter is resolved through the political process. As the situation remains in the early stages of a police review, the primary focus will be on the legal status of the complaint and any subsequent statements from the named parties.
