Mumbai EOW Questions Dino Morea in Rs 65 Crore Mithi River Case

Actor Dino Morea was questioned for six hours by Mumbai's Economic Offences Wing regarding an alleged Rs 65.54-crore scam linked to Mithi River desilting projects. The probe, which also involves a parallel money-laundering investigation by the Enforcement Directorate, centers on allegations of inflated billing and fraudulent documentation in municipal contracts.

Actor Dino Morea appeared before the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police on Friday for a six-hour interrogation. The questioning is part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged financial fraud exceeding Rs 65.54 crore, centered on desilting and rejuvenation projects for the Mithi River. The case focuses on potential irregularities within contracts awarded by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Investigators are examining claims that the funds were siphoned off through falsified work records, inflated billing, and irregular tender processes. This investigation has been running for over a year, with the actor previously facing inquiries in May 2025 regarding his financial connections to key accused contractor Ketan Kadam. The EOW is specifically tracing the movement of funds to determine if any capital was diverted to companies associated with the actor, such as UBO Ridez, a firm linked to his brother, Santino Morea.

The case has drawn significant attention from federal agencies as well. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting a parallel money-laundering investigation into the matter. Federal authorities have previously executed searches at several locations across Mumbai and Kerala, targeting premises connected to municipal officials, contractors, and individuals linked to the actor. The ED's scrutiny focuses on the layering of transactions and the potential manipulation of municipal tender processes.

Legal authorities are currently analyzing financial records collected during the investigation to determine the next steps in the case. With contractor Ketan Kadam already in custody, law enforcement officials indicated that further summons or legal actions will depend on the evidentiary value of the documents and financial trails currently under review. Investors and the public are monitoring the progress of the case, as it highlights ongoing concerns regarding transparency and governance in large municipal infrastructure projects.
