Lahore Police Clear Deputy PM’s Grandson of Rape Charges

Lahore police have submitted an investigation report clearing Muhammad Raza Dar, the grandson of Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, of sexual assault charges. While cleared of these specific allegations, he remains under prosecution for illegal detention and extortion related to a cryptocurrency business dispute involving foreign nationals.

Lahore police have submitted an interim investigation report to a local trial court, officially clearing Muhammad Raza Dar, the grandson of Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, of sexual assault charges. The decision follows a high-profile investigation into a June 29, 2026, incident involving two foreign nationals, a Dutch and a Venezuelan citizen, who had visited Pakistan for business discussions.

While the police report found no evidence linking Raza Dar to the sexual assault, the investigation identified three of his employees as the primary perpetrators of the crime. These employees remain under investigation, and their case continues through the local legal system. For stakeholders monitoring the region, this update clarifies the personal liability of the individuals involved but does not conclude the legal challenges facing the group.

Despite being cleared of the assault charges, Raza Dar and four other associates continue to face serious legal proceedings. Authorities have maintained charges of illegal detention and extortion linked to a failed cryptocurrency investment venture. According to police, the foreign visitors were allegedly held against their will at a residence in Lahore's Defence Housing Authority and coerced into transferring $19,500. The total dispute reportedly centered on an initial investment of over $500,000 that failed to yield returns.

As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities have seized assets including a vehicle, mobile phones, and firearms, leading to additional charges under the local Arms Ordinance. The court is currently reviewing the evidence presented by the police to determine the next steps in the prosecution. With the victims having provided statements and returned to their home countries, the case now hinges on the judicial evaluation of the remaining detention and extortion claims. The legal status of the accused remains subject to the final findings of the court, and the case continues to be a point of significant scrutiny due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved.
