Court Steps In After Fatal Explosion
The Kerala High Court has started its own investigation into the tragic fireworks explosion that occurred in Thrissur district on April 21. This proactive move addresses the devastating blast at a manufacturing site preparing explosives for the well-known Thrissur Pooram festival, aiming to find who is responsible and prevent similar events.
Officials and Boards Face Questions
A court panel, led by Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Syam Kumar VM, has requested detailed reports from the State government, the State Police Chief, the Thrissur Collector, and the Explosives Controller. The Cochin Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswom Boards, which help organize the festival, must also explain their role in the events leading up to the disaster.
Safety Worries Highlighted
The large number of deaths and injuries from the incident has increased existing worries about storing and using explosives for Kerala's many festivals. Following the tragedy, the Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswom Boards decided to cancel this year's fireworks show for the Thrissur Pooram, showing how serious the safety problems were.
Separate Probe Underway
Alongside the High Court's case, a judicial commission led by retired High Court judge CN Ramachandran is conducting its own investigation. This commission has visited the explosion site and hospitals treating survivors, and is collecting statements from those affected. This two-pronged investigation aims for a thorough understanding and timely resolution.
