The incident began when a 19-year-old student, identified as Dhruv, reported his new iPhone 17 missing from a workspace in a Koramangala hostel.
Digital Tracking and Recovery
Using the tracking features available on his smartphone, the student was able to locate the device approximately 7 kilometers away in Indiranagar. Following this, police authorities were involved in the recovery process. The phone was reportedly found in the possession of an individual who identified himself as an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Ahmedabad, currently employed at the investment firm Peak XV. According to the student's account, this individual claimed the phone had been taken by mistake while he was under the influence of alcohol.

The student stated that he was unable to provide the requested amount at the time and has since reported being left without follow-up communication from the police.
