Tonbo Imaging IPO Subscribed 49 Times Ahead Of October 23 Listing

Tonbo Imaging's ₹852-crore IPO closed with 49 times subscription as investor demand spiked. While the defense electronics maker attracted strong interest, its recent financials show declining income and a net loss in the June quarter. The stock will debut on the exchanges on October 23.

Tonbo Imaging India's initial public offering (IPO) saw high demand, with the total subscription reaching 48.76 times the shares offered by the time bidding closed. The company aimed to raise ₹852 crore, with non-institutional investors leading the charge by bidding 114.56 times their allocated portion. Qualified institutional buyers followed with 46.38 times subscription, while retail investors subscribed 21.96 times their quota. Prior to the public offer, the company secured ₹255.36 crore from anchor investors, signaling institutional interest in its specialized defense business.

Tonbo Imaging, based in Bengaluru, manufactures electro-optical and infrared systems and accounts for a significant portion of India’s thermal imaging exports. Despite the high subscription numbers, potential investors should review the company’s recent financial health. The company’s total income dropped to ₹369.94 crore in FY26 compared to ₹474.39 crore in the previous year. Profit after tax also saw a decline, and the firm reported a net loss of ₹17.74 crore for the quarter ending June 30, 2026.

The defense electronics sector is capital-intensive, requiring steady spending on technology and production capacity. Reflecting this, Tonbo Imaging’s total borrowings increased to ₹129.72 crore. The company's future performance will depend on its ability to manage this debt and return to profitability as it navigates the competitive defense landscape. While grey market premiums—unofficial indicators of listing sentiment—have pointed to a potentially strong debut, these figures remain volatile and do not guarantee actual trading performance.

Investors should keep a close eye on the company’s operational execution following the listing. Important factors to monitor include how the company uses the funds raised, its ability to secure new orders to revive revenue growth, and whether it can reduce its debt burden. The share allotment status is scheduled for October 21, and the official trading debut is set for October 23.
