Tonbo Imaging Debuts 66% Higher at ₹1,162 Per Share

Tonbo Imaging shares listed at a 66% premium over their ₹700 IPO price, opening at ₹1,162. The defense electronics firm's strong debut comes despite a broader market sell-off and follows a massive 136-times subscription during its public issue. Investors should note that the IPO was entirely an offer-for-sale, meaning the company itself does not receive funds from this share issuance.

Tonbo Imaging made its public market debut on Friday, with shares opening at ₹1,162 on the BSE. This represents a 66% gain over the fixed IPO price of ₹700. On the NSE, the shares opened similarly at ₹1,160, reflecting a 65.7% increase. This strong opening stood out as the broader Indian stock market, including the Sensex and Nifty, faced a downward trend during the session.

While the stock saw some profit-taking later in the day, the price remained well above the issue price, settling around ₹1,058 by mid-day. The company’s market valuation reached roughly ₹6,191 crore, signaling significant interest from investors in the defense electronics sector.

The debut follows a highly successful subscription period, where the ₹852.18-crore IPO was subscribed nearly 136 times. It is important for investors to note that this IPO was an offer-for-sale, meaning current shareholders and promoters sold a portion of their stake. As a result, the company itself did not receive any proceeds from this share sale to fund new expansion or pay down debt.

Based in Bengaluru, Tonbo Imaging specializes in high-tech defense electronics. Its product range includes thermal imaging cores, missile seekers, and fire control systems used for surveillance and weapons. With over 28,000 systems deployed across 24 countries, the firm competes on a global level against specialized companies like Teledyne FLIR, Hensoldt, and Theon International.

For investors, the area to track will be the company’s ability to maintain growth without the infusion of new capital from this IPO. Future performance will depend on the firm's success in securing new orders and executing its existing contracts in a competitive global defense market. Shareholders should also watch for how the company manages operational costs as it continues to expand its international footprint.
