Rentomojo IPO Opens September 9 at ₹384–₹404 Per Share

Rentomojo is launching an IPO of ₹1,255.57 crore, open for subscription from September 9 to September 11, 2026. The furniture and appliance rental firm reported an FY26 profit of ₹104.3 crore, though this figure includes a one-time deferred tax credit of ₹36.6 crore. Investors may monitor how the company balances its capital-intensive expansion plans with future operating margins.

Rentomojo has announced plans to enter the public market with an initial public offering (IPO) valued at ₹1,255.57 crore. The subscription window for the public will open on September 9 and close on September 11, 2026. The company has set a price band of ₹384 to ₹404 per equity share. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of shares worth ₹150 crore, while the remaining ₹1,105.57 crore is an Offer for Sale (OFS), where existing shareholders will sell their stakes.

Financials and One-Time Adjustments

For the fiscal year ending in 2026, Rentomojo reported a revenue of ₹387 crore. The company posted a net profit of ₹104.3 crore during this period. However, it is important for investors to note that this profit figure includes a one-time deferred tax credit of ₹36.6 crore. This tax adjustment, which is a non-recurring event, significantly boosted the bottom line for the year. Without this credit, the operating profitability of the business would have been lower. Understanding the difference between one-time gains and regular business earnings is essential for assessing the company’s underlying performance.

Business Model and Capital Needs

Rentomojo operates a rental model for furniture and appliances. Unlike businesses that primarily focus on software or services, this model is highly capital-intensive. To add a new subscriber or expand to a new area, the company must first procure physical assets, which involves significant upfront spending.

Because of this, the company relies heavily on efficient inventory management, warehousing, and logistics to ensure that the assets remain in good condition for multiple rental cycles. The management has previously highlighted that the business involves complex operational tasks, including asset refurbishment and recovery, which creates a barrier for new players to enter the space. However, this also means that the company needs a steady stream of capital to keep buying assets as it looks to grow its subscriber base.

Competition and Execution Risks

Rentomojo faces competition from other players in the rental sector, such as Furlenco and Cityfurnish. The rental industry is highly dependent on consumer demand for flexible living solutions, particularly among mobile populations in urban areas. A potential risk for shareholders is the ongoing need for capital to procure assets, which could impact cash flow. Additionally, the company must consistently manage its supply chain effectively to ensure that its assets are utilized efficiently. If the company cannot maintain high occupancy rates for its rented items or if the costs of refurbishment and logistics rise unexpectedly, profit margins could come under pressure.

Investors tracking the IPO may want to look beyond the headline profit figure and focus on the company's ability to generate steady cash flows from operations without relying on tax benefits. Key monitorables for the future include the company’s ability to manage debt, its success in controlling refurbishment costs, and how it performs in a competitive market against established peers.
